7 Horror Shorts To Watch This Holiday

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

I’m pretty sure you guys have seen every single Christmas-themed horror movie known to man, and lets be honest, you can only watch the same few over and over. So here I bring to you 7 Christmas horror shorts, that you may have seen before, if not, then please enjoy and have a safe Holiday.

A Very Zombie Holiday

This one is basically a faux instructional video in the event of a zombie apocalypse during the Christmas period and how you can survive while still baking a pretty kickass pie. This one comes from Team Unicorn with Adam Green’s wife, Rileah Vanderbilt spearheading the short. I enjoyed it, and heck, I wish I was stuck with these ladies during the apocalypse.

Rare Exports Inc.

I couldn’t make a Christmas list without including Jalmari Helander Rare Exports. The same short from which the feature film was created from. However, if you haven’t seen the full film yet you may want to give this a miss as it spoils some of the film. Also, old-man jiggly bits aren’t something you want to see if you are of nervous disposition. If not go right ahead and enjoy this Christmas gem!

Black Santa’s Revenge

Before there was Hobo With a Shotgun, there was David Walker’s blaxploitation mini-epic Black Santa’s Revenge which stars genre legend Ken Foree. A little bit of grindhouse  for your Holidays, please enjoy and hopefully one day we may see a feature film.

My Name Is Kris Kringle

Here I bring to you Drew Daywalt’s My Name Is Kringle, a stellar little short which shows just what Santa does to those who have made it into his Naughty book. Prey you didn’t make the list!

Treevenge

Another short which is no stranger around these parts is Jason Eisener’s Treevenge. Before Hobo With a Shotguncame about, Eisner unleashed the full fury of Christmas pine trees, they have had enough of becoming a decoration and now its time for revenge, Treevenge that is.

Cold Night

When you think of Christmas and especially Christmas horror, you think of Santa Claus and his wrath of evil. However, you’d be missing one vital evil during this time, the goblin! While your eyes are averted and waiting for jolly Saint Nick, the goblin has the perfect chance to sneak up on you and take you out, check out Michael Nicle’s short and don’t say I didn’t warn you.

The Winter Stalker

Last, but by no means least is the truly awesome and well produced short The Winter Stalker Stephen Reedy. I don’t want to spoil this one, so I won’t say anything as anything I say will truly spoil it. :) Check it out and thanks for watching and have a safe and merry Christmas everyone!

Strigoi: The Undead Asylum Seekers & The Coffin Hit DVD This August

Friday, July 1st, 2011

A slew of films from Breaking Glass Pictures are set to hit DVD this August which brings a few foreign films to your doorstep, which is always a good thing.

Strigoi: The Undead:

“Podoleni Village may seem like a typical Eastern European town, but when a young local named Vlad goes searching for his grandfather’s runaway dog, he uncovers a mysterious death. As Vlad digs deeper into the possible murder mystery, his trail leads him to the Tirescus — an ex-Communist couple who happen to be the richest landowners in town. Though Vlad is determined to confront the Tirescus, his quest takes a sudden detour when he learns that the two bullies may be bloodsuckers in more ways than one…

Strigoi: The Undead is a Vampire movie that defies categorization. Shedding a fantastic light on a post-Communist Romanian village, the film introduces us to an ancient myth: Strigoi, the belief that people who’ve been wronged can rise again after death to seek justice and satisfy their thirst for blood. A deeply human take on an old horror story, this dark comedy explores the old world versus the new and delves into the heart of modern Romania.”

The DVD features the featurette “Lump” and a trailer, the film hits shelves on August 2, 2011.

Asylum Seekers:

Work, deadlines, family, terrorism, information overload… As modern life pushes the world to the brink of madness, six strangers decide there’s only one sane response: head through the door marked EXIT. It leads to a deluxe, exclusive, luxuriously-appointed mental asylum where a staff will wait on them hand and foot for the rest of their carefree lives. The problem? The asylum has only one vacancy. Now, the group of would-be patients will have to prove who among them is truly most deranged. Of course, not everything in the asylum is as it seems, and as the applicants turn themselves over for evaluation, they learn that the insanity has just begun.

Director Rania Ajami’s boldly original feature-length debut is a surreal black comedy that questions the ways we define what is normal and what is not. Asylum Seekers takes its characters – and the audience – deep into the rabbit hole to a place where sanity is not an option.”

The DVD contains no special features and hits shelves on August 30, 2011.

The Coffin:

“Su and Chris are two strangers whose lives have been struck by tragedy — Su has been diagnosed with lung cancer just days before her wedding and Chris’ longtime girlfriend has fallen into a mysterious coma. When they both learn of a bizarre Thai ritual in which a living person lies in a coffin to reverse bad Karma, they both decide to partake in a mass funeral for the living. Soon, their lives have turned around — Su’s cancer vanishes and Chris’ girlfriend awakes from her coma — but the good fortune is short-lived. A series of terrifying paranormal events suggests that Su and Chris may have upset the Karmic balance of the universe by cleansing themselves of bad luck, and the people closest to them may ultimately pay the price.

International stars Karen Mok and Ananda Everingham star in this brooding tale about the fear of death and the cost of love. Based on a real-life ritual and shot on location in Bangkok, ancient Thai spiritual grounds, and an active crematorium, The Coffin is a nightmarish and ultimately moving supernatural thrill ride.”

The DVD contains deleted scenes, alternate footage, cast & crew interviews and a International trailer. The film hits shelves on August 30, 2011.

Tommy Brunswick upcoming slasher flick, Exit 33, which stars genre veteran Kane Hodder is making it’s way to DVD, according to BreakingGlassPictures, Exit 33 will hit DVD on August 2nd and you can pre-order yourself a copy now.

I think this looks great, a lot of eyeball action to be had and Kane Hodder is still as menacing as ever, check out the official trailer below.

Exit 33 stars Kane Hodder, Christian Koza, April Canning, Virginia Negron Bryant, Jerry Reid, Antoinette Nikprelaj, Paul Elia and Maria E. Hildreth.

Synopsis: “A few miles off Exit 33 lies Ike’s Last Chance Gas, an old, forgotten hideaway where the reclusive Ike pumps gas and practices his taxidermy skills. Though he might come across as a simple soul, Ike has a dark secret: he’s obsessed with women who have enchanting eyes — eyes he wants to keep for himself. Now, as four friends make their way to their 5-year high school reunion, they all make the mistake of taking Exit 33, and they won’t be making it back to the highway any time soon.

Starring the legendary Kane Hodder (Jason Vorhees of the Friday the 13th series), Exit 33 is a no holds barred gore-fest that dares viewers to look away. With its unrelenting suspense and biting humor, it’s a bloody throwback to slasher classics that will satisfy any horror fan’s bloodlust.”
