My Soul to Take is without a doubt one of the most frustrating movies I’ve ever sat through. Starting off with a lot of interesting and original ideas, it becomes bogged down by an always escalating plot that crashes and burns into one of the most asinine, maddening finales this side of War of the Worlds. I wanted to like this, and at a few moments I truly did, however the strong acting from the young cast and glimpses of classic Craven direction are just not enough to save the film as a whole.

Truly one of the most infuriating movie going experiences for me last year was when I first went to watch Wes Craven’s My Soul to Take. So infuriating, in fact, that I didn’t even bother to write a review of it at the time as I felt I needed to let it settle in. Well, low and behold, it’s already out on video so now seems like as good a time as any. There are people who will tell you that Wes’ first original film from his own script in over a decade is the epitome of puke re-eaten, shat out, and pissed on. And, to be honest, I really wish that was the case.

From the UK comes Rupert Bryan’s The Hike a horror/thriller which follows a group of female friends who seek out a camping spot in the woods to spend their time together, soon darkness falls and one of the girls go missing. They must rely on each other to escape what terrors lie ahead.

The Hike is written & directed by Rupert Bryan and co-written by Ben Loyd Holmes, the film stars Tamar Hassan (Kick Ass), Barbara Nedeljakova (Hostel), Ben Loyd Holmes
(Torchwood), Shauna Macdonald (The Descent), Zara Phythian, Daniel
Caren, Jemma Bolt, Domonic Le Moignan, Stephanie Siadatan, Lisa Marie
Long, Adam Young and Joe Nuttal.

Synopsis: “Kate (Zara Phythian) is a soldier back from a tour in Afghanistan
on compassionate leave after seeing her soldier boyfriend die in combat.
Back amongst her best friends, they take the chance to get away and go
on a camping trip to a picturesque and remote area of the British
countryside. As the girls leave for their expedition, Kate’s friend,
Torri (Barbara Nedeljacova), breaks up with her aggressive boyfriend,
Dean (Tamer Hassan), leaving Kate to defend her from his violence.

Leaving all that behind, the girls make their way into the woods
in search of the perfect place to camp and enjoy their time together. As
they near Sunset Point, they come across a strange and evasive group of
Eastern Europeans that seem to be living off the land. It’s an awkward
situation, and Kate and her group quickly move on. As the girls reach
Sunset Point, they encounter three rock climbers, lead by Ethan (Ben
Loyd Holmes), and much to her annoyance Kate’s friends quickly become
friendly with the lads. As the two groups go their separate ways, Kate
is relieved to have the girls to herself, but as darkness falls and
Charlie (Jemma Bolt) goes missing, the girls begin to feel vulnerable
and will be forced to rely on each other and their newly formed
friendships with the climbers to find Charlie and get them out of the
woods to safety.”

<p>Wes Craven’s new film My Soul to Take, formerly called 25/8, is set to hit theaters this October. With that date right around the corner, it’s about time they popped a trailer out for this film and they have done just that. The trailer premiered on Yahoo Movies and you can check out the trailer by <a href=”http://movies.yahoo.com/premieres/21450210/standardformat“>clicking here</a>. Personally I must say I am a bit disappointed as it looks like a lot of the other teen slashers to come down the pipes in recent years but feel free to add your comments as well. </p><p>Oh and have we mentioned it’s being released in 3D? (Did I just here mass groans from our readers?) At least it’s rated R for strong bloody violence and pervasive language including sexual references. </p><p>My Soul to Take has also gotten a new release date so it doesnt have to compete with Saw 3D, so look for it to now hit theaters October 8th. </p><span style=”font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; color: #cccccc”><p style=”text-align: left”><em>In the sleepy town of Riverton, legend tells of a serial killer who swore he would return to murder the seven children born the night he died. Now, 16 years later, people are disappearing again. Has the psychopath been reincarnated as one of the seven teens, or did he survive the night he was left for dead? Only one of the kids knows the answer.</em></p></span><p style=”text-align: left”><span style=”font-family: Arial; font-size: 12px; color: #cccccc”><em>Adam “Bug” Heller (Max Thierot) was supposed to die on the bloody night his father went insane. Unaware of his dad’s terrifying crimes, he has been plagued by nightmares since he was a baby. But if Bug hopes to save his friends from the monster that’s returned, he must face an evil that won’t rest … until it finishes the job it began the day he was born.</em></span> </p>

The vampire genre of horror films is one of my favorite genres only second to zombie films and much like the zombie genre its packed full of really bad films and a few true gems. Today I want to take a look at 5 Bad Ass Vampire Killers that you can stake ( get it ? ) odds on that they will come out on top against the bitey living undead.

Wesley Snipes BLADE: Directed by Stephen Norrington and written by David Goyer this is one of my all time favorite vampire-action flicks. I am not normally a fan of Wesley Snipes but his role as BLADE the daywalking half vampire, all bad ass is one of my favorites. With a great story and a great cast the original BLADE film is one of my personal favorites. BLADE delivers the beat down in epic fashion in Blade and the followup Blade 2. Unfortunately Blade 3 Trinity is one of the worst movies I have ever seen especially the character Jessica Biel played. Dumping in sex appeal to a franchise is great but please studios try to make it way less random would you?

Kristie Swanson, Buffy: Admittedly as huge a fan of Joss Whedons as I am I have never seen a single episode of the Buffy TV series. I did however see the movie which starred Kristie Swanson and 90210′s Luke Perry. The film is a classic teen horror movie with more action / romance then real terrors I left this movie pumped up and with a major crush on Kristie Swanson as the ass kicking vampire killer Buffy. The film had a great cast including Donald Sutherland and is pretty much classic Joss Whedon. Not a deep or dark movie by any stretch but a fun teen-movie sure to make you chuckle and enjoy yourself. Plus its got Swanson…. do you need more?

James Woods, Vampires: I am a huge fan of John Carpenters and I like all his movies even the one you all love to hate Ghosts of Mars. Vampires is one of his best starring James Woods as the leader of a gang of vampire killers working for the church. When a church leader goes rogue and unleashed the mother of all vampires for his own diabolical intentions James Woods, Daniel Balwin and the rest of his gang go on a vampire-ass-kicking joy ride as they hunt down the darkest of all vampires ‘Valek’.

Kate Beckinsale Underworld: If this editorial was called ‘Vampires I would love to have kick my ass in leather’ Kate Beckinsale is the only one on this list that would also make that list. Kate Beckinsale plays a lycan hunting vampire with the most-est when she turns on her clan and goes from hunting Lycans to battling vampires. Kate Beckinsale really hit the map for me in this film and played not only a tough character but a smoking hot one as well. Never have vampire hunters come hotter then Kate!

George Clooney, From Dusk Til Dawn: Robert Rodriguez’s From Dusk til Dawn has made a few of my lists including a few hottie lists because it co-stars Selma Hayek as a vampire stripper showing off her godly gifts. The film stars Quentin Tarantino and George Clooney as two murderous brothers who car jack a preachor and his kids and escape to the Titty Twister in Mexico and freedom. The problems arise when the bar it turns out is a vampire haven. George Clooney plays one of his only good film characters as he kicks ass and takes names in brutal fashion. Quentin Tarantino also did a fantastic job as the ‘perverted brother’. For me this is still one of Robert Rodriguez’s best films.

So there you have it 5 Bad Ass Vampire Killers in Film. What would be on your list?
