Official Trailer For Silent House Remake

Sunday, January 8th, 2012

I know we unfortunately live in a time of remakes, but only last month did I watch the original flick La Casa Muda (The Silent House) and the remake is already ready for its release. Its quite surreal. Anyway, here we have the full official trailer for Chris Kentis and Laura Lau’s Silent House which stars Elizabeth Olsen, courtesy of Yahoo! Movies.

Synopsis: “SILENT HOUSE is a uniquely unsettling horror thriller starring Elizabeth Olsen as Sarah, a young woman who finds herself sealed inside her family’s secluded lake house. With no contact to the outside world, and no way out, panic turns to terror as events become increasingly ominous in and around the house. Directed by filmmaking duo Chris Kentis and Laura Lau, SILENT HOUSE uses meticulous camera choreography to take the audience on a tension-filled, real time journey, experienced in a single uninterrupted shot.”

Silent House hits theatres on March 9, 2012.

Steven Zaillian To Direct Timecrimes Remake?

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

It has been a long time coming, but we could have a director lined up to direct the remake of Timecrimes (Los Cronocrimenes). Last we heard was that Steven Zaillian and Agnes Metre would be producing the feature with Timothy J. Sexton penning the script.

According to SciFiWorld via B-D, Steven Zaillian could be directing the remake himself, although nothing has been officially confirmed at this time. But, is there really any need for a remake?

“In the original a man accidentally gets into a time machine and travels back in time nearly an hour. Finding himself will be the first of a series of disasters of unforeseeable consequences.”

Just a heads up, if you haven’t seen the movie yet DO NOT watch the trailer, somewhere they kind of screwed up and spoil the movie, beware. :)

Silent Night, Bloody Night Remake Announced

Monday, December 12th, 2011

I’m sorry guys, I hate to be the bearer of remakes, but we have yet another one on our hands and this one is Silent Night, Bloody Night and will be making its way out of the UK.

According to Dread Central, the UK outfit North Bank Entertainment is currently developing a new updated version of the cult classic Silent Night, Bloody Night. This is the same outfit which is working on Night of the Living Dead: Resurrection.

The updated version or should I say remake will be titled, Silent Night, Bloody Night: The Homecoming which is planned to begin filming in March/April 2012 in South Wales.

“SILENT NIGHT, BLOODY NIGHT: THE HOMECOMING will be a modern updating of the original story, but we also want to re-capture the atmosphere of the slasher films from the 1970s and 80s. There will be a keen focus on practical FX, genuine suspense, and compelling storytelling. This could be one of the rare cases when a new version of a classic actually benefits the original film. We hope that by bringing SILENT NIGHT, BLOODY NIGHT: THE HOMECOMING to a modern audience, they will also seek out the 1974 film and appreciate its importance in horror cinema history.”

Synopsis: “The abandoned home of Wilfred Butler, a wealthy but troubled man who committed suicide in 1982, has been willed to his grandson, Jeffrey. The house has sat in disarray since Wilfred’s death, standing in the way of developers who want to turn the property into residential homes. Just before Christmas 2012, some thirty years after Wilfred’s death, Jeffrey and his lawyer appear in town to negotiate the sale of the property. But an axe-wielding maniac has set up residence in the house, and he doesn’t take kindly to strangers.”

More information regarding a director and the cast is expected to be announced in January and February.

Starship Troopers Remake On The Way

Friday, December 2nd, 2011

There seems to be something in common with remaking Paul Verhoeven’s films, Total Recall is currently under-way and a remake of Robocop is on the cards. So what else could they be remaking, well Starship Troopers of course, sigh.

According to Vulture, Sony Pictures producer Neal Moritz has decided that the film needs the remake treatment so he has assigned Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz to pen the screenplay.

That’s all there is at the moment so stay tuned for more on this one.

Maniac Remake – Seen Through The Killers Eyes

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

Over the past few days we’ve learned that Elijah Wood would play the role of Frank Zito with Franck Khalfoun directing and Alexandre Aja and Gregory Lavasseur producing the Maniac remake, so how about the story itself?

Well, the guys over at Badass Digest recently got word that the film would be shot as a POV movie, but they received word from an unknown source stating;

“…it’s only the killer’s scenes that are POV. The rest of the film is shot normally!”

While this gives the film a different perspective, I think witnessing Frank Zito’s face, especially the ending really helped elevate the film, who knows, maybe this is a good thing to give it a different scope.

Michael Bay to Remake Twilight Zone?

Sunday, October 2nd, 2011

Yeah you read that right. Michael Bay is one of a select group that Warner Brothers is considering to do a new Twilight Zone movie. Just today I watched Transformers 3 and after finishing it I wondered what Michael Bay might do next and I can assure you that remaking The Twilight Zone wasnt on the list.

Michael Bay is not alone though as Warner Brothers has other names in contention including Christopher Nolan who of course is famous now for Batman, Rupert Wyatt who recently did the prequel to Planet of the Apes which I highly enjoyed, Alfonso Cuaron who directed one of the best modern scifi films Children of Men and David Yates who directed a small film series about some kid named Harry Potter.

I am not a Michael Bay hater like most I think he is incredibly talented at doing splashy and over the top action flicks that are low on substance and high on intensity. Do I think he could pull off a Twilight Zone reboot? Most likely he could. Would it be something horror fans would love? Probably not. More likely it would be an action flick with lots of things blowing up, some punk actor throwing out quirky one liners and some unknown victoria’s secret model co-starring.

Familiar Character Returns In Total Recall Remake

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011

Len Wiseman’s remake of Total Recall is said to be more based on the Philip K. Dick novel “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale“. The only thing so far that is similar to the novel is that it isn’t based on Mars. We have the same character names as the 1990 version and now we also have something that will make you wish you had three hands.

According to Collider, Len Wiseman has confirmed that the three-breasted woman will make an appearance in the remake, he also noted that the film will not be in 3D. Also the classic one-liners from the 1990 film are said to be used in different forms.

The effects are also said to be done with practical effects while using limited CGI and they have created a unique fighting scene using super slider rigs which are usually used for car scenes.

Wiseman also mentioned that there would be a few similar surprises as well, but we will have to wait for the release to witness all of these.

The remake stars Colin Farrell, Bryan Cranston, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Bokeem Woodbine, John Cho and we are still waiting on confirmation of Bill Nighy.

The story involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai, with Douglas Quaid (Farrell) a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy, although he doesn’t know for which side.

Total Recall hits theatres on August 3, 2012.

First Judge Dredd Remake Photo

Sunday, July 17th, 2011

This is borderline as to whether we should be covering Judge Dredd or not but I am sure you will all forgive me. The second photo of Karl Urban as Judge Dredd has hit the web via BC showing Karl Urban as Dredd wearing the iconic helmet from the comics.

If you ignore DOOM and Pathfinder Karl Urban has had an ok career capped with a top performance in the Star Trek remake. I think he has the look and potential of pulling off a stark and dangerous Dredd character. The original film which starred Diane Lane  ( who is just a shot now as she was then ) and Sylvester Stallone may have been panned by critics but I still loved it. Lena Headey from The Sarah Conner Chronicles and 300 is co-starring and my assumption is she will play the role Diane Lane did in the first film.

The remake is called ‘Dredd’ and is slated for a release in 2012. It is based off the comic and set in a violent, futuristic city, the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner. I am looking forward to this film alot more then the Total Call Remake or the Fright Night remake that is for sure!
