Make a Deal With The Devil in APE – Trailer Inside

Monday, March 5th, 2012

That pesky little devil is at it again, offering deals but never quite giving the punter exactly what they wanted. He is a tough old cookie, but there are plenty of people lining up to get there problems fixed and director Joel Potrykus is unleashing one of them who just happens to be a pyromaniac in APE.

Courtesy of Undead Brainspasm we have the full synopsis and two teaser trailer’s which you can view below. I for one am pretty impressed by what I have just seen so I’ll be keeping my eyes on this one.

At this time a release date hasn’t been confirmed but a DVD is said to hit around October time with even a very limited theatrical release some time this year too.

Synopsis: “Trevor Newandyke is a struggling small-time comedian. Not only does he bomb on stage, but he bombs in everyday life. To him, it’s the little things that matter most. He’s fed up with the threats from the cable company, 7-11 raising the price of the Slurpee, and all the jerks who think they can push him around. All he wants is a break, and for someone to get him. Not everyone, just someone.

But instead of taking a breath and getting himself together or taking his anger to the stage, he turns to the loud din of his headphones and the crackling glow of fire to ease his mind. He’s not only a lousy comic, but a pyromaniac, as well. After a typical night disappointing the crowd he finds that one of his jokes begins to come to life. A fruit salesman posing as the Devil strikes a bargain with Trevor. A golden apple for a joke.

He treasures the apple, seeing it as a sign or a magical object. But after some troubling news he tells the audience that it’s likely just an apple and meaningless. He decides to just eat it. It’s good, too. Makes Trevor feel something. The next day he finally reaches his boiling point during the clamor of his neighbors fighting.

But instead of hiding behind a match or homemade flame thrower, he instead turns to the baseball bat. He not only hits hard against those in his way, but he finds his voice on stage as well. He tells it like it is. No fluff. From here, Trevor lets go. He’s mad as hell and he’s not going to take it anymore. Of course, deals with the Devil don’t ever turn out well.”

Full Trailer For Mae Nak 3D

Saturday, March 3rd, 2012

Here we go again, yet another wacky horror film from our friends over in Thailand, and yes, it is in 3D. I’m just not sure what’s worse, the fact that the film has a ton of dodgy CGI or the fact that it is in 3D. I want to like it, but I can’t. In any event, we have the full trailer and synopsis courtesy of 24 FPS, see what you make of it.

Synopsis: “If you don’t know the story then we can only surmise you’ve been living under a stone. For those rock dwellers here it is again: Nak, a heavily pregnant woman, dies with her stillborn child while her husband, Mak, is away at war. When Mak returns, he doesn’t know that his family is dead and continues to live with Nak unaware that she is actually a ghost.”

Kevin Williamson Says No To Scream 5

Friday, March 2nd, 2012

This basically confirms what we already thought. I’m sure you remember the controversy regarding Wes Craven’s Scream 4? The whole script issue’s and what-not and the powers that be. It was pretty ugly and today, Kevin Williamson has shut the door on his involvement in the franchise.

In an interview with Assignment X via Dread Central, Kevin Williamson was talking about his show The Vampire Diaries, and in amongst all that, a question was asked if he would return for Scream 5 in which he bluntly replied;

I’m not doing it.”

And that was that. Does anyone even want a fifth Scream movie?

BD Selects Picks Up Alyce

Thursday, March 1st, 2012

Jay Lee’s upcoming flick, Alyce, looks absolutely brutal and soon this one will be making it’s way to the U.S. as Bloody-Disgusting Selects have acquired the North American rights.

The film will be released on DVD and VOD, and at this time there is no word as to when this will be released, but stay tuned.

The film stars Tamara Feldman, James Duval (Donnie Darko, Doom Generation), Eddie Rouse (Pandorum, Undertow) and Jade Dornfeld.

Synopsis: “Alyce, an introverted young woman, tries to console her friend, Carroll, after Carroll discovers her boyfriend has been cheating. The girls get drunk and take ecstasy before heading up to the roof of Alyce’s apartment building. Intoxicated and giddy, the girls start playing around but one drunken stumble later knocks Carroll off the ledge of the six-story building.

Panicked, Alyce returns to her apartment and begins to quickly unravel.

Miraculously, Carroll doesn’t die but is severely broken and unable to speak. Alyce lies about her involvement in the tragedy but it ceaselessly haunts her. She seeks refuge in drugs and more drugs, exchanging sexual favors to get and stay high. She loses sleep, her job, and soon, her sanity.

Until, that is, Alyce decides to take control of the situation. She puts an end to her anxieties of being discovered by suffocating Carroll. The sense of control she garners with this single act empowers her and she moves on for more. She kills the cheating boyfriend but finds that disposing of his body is more trouble than she’d bargained for. But it’s not a job that a blender, a microwave, a hack saw, a baseball bat, and a garbage disposal, can’t eventually take care of.

And then she goes off, quite rationally, to take control of the rest of her life and all of the people that have been controlling her.

Synopsis: “EANETTE, the club’s careworn owner, believes murdering customers is bad for business, so she orders the club’s bouncer to quietly dispose of the body. And there the matter should end … if Mickey hadn’t been a member of a bloodthirsty and vengeful pack of werewolves. When Mickey’s corpse surfaces, JACK FERRIS, the werewolves’ charming and vicious leader, swears bloody vengeance and sends his pack out to hunt down the killers. AMC To Unleash 99 Stories

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

With AMC’s rating machine The Walking Dead still captivating audiences will they strike gold once again with another horror themed show?

According to the The Hollywood Reporter, AMC is currently developing a sci-fi horror thriller entitled 99 Stories which takes place at a 99-story high-rise building.

David Seltzer (The Sarah Connor Chronicles) along with James Middleton and Steven Banks (Women in Law) created the series. Seltzer is also said to be penning the project.

99 Stories revolves around a group of strangers invited to tour a newly constructed multipurpose 99-story building who find themselves trapped in it with no way out but up.”

David Seltzer said, “Each story presents a different kind of challenge for the group… The elevators are in control of (the strangers’) destiny, whittling them out by deciding who they deem deserve to go up.” Seltzer continues, “What’s going on there is not about the people trapped inside, it affects the rest of the world.”

While Hollywood may not be doing anything original and are too fixated with remakes, at least AMC is continuing on with original programming and this one sounds intriguing.

Ridley Scott Reveals More On Prometheus

Monday, February 27th, 2012

Can you believe that it is only a little over three months away until we get our hands on Prometheus? The time has gone by so quickly and as the date looms ever closer my anticipation is almost through the freaking roof! While the film is still relatively in the dark, Ridley Scott recently gave us a little more to chew on, including Guy Pearce’s character.

Courtesy of  Mozinezo.hu via AVP Galaxy we have a brief statement from the man himself, Ridley Scott.

When the first ‘Alien’ movie and ‘Blade Runner’ were made, I thought that in the near future the world will be owned by large companies. This is why we have the Tyrell Corporation in ‘Blade Runner’, and Weyland-Yutani in ‘Alien’. They sent the Nostromo spaceship.

The Prometheus is owned by an entrepreneur called Peter Weyland, and is played by Guy Pearce. That’s the connection between the two films, and nothing more. Prometheus is a new film, a new world, and is full of new ideas. And of course new monsters as well.

Prometheus hits theatres this June 8th.

Shadows of the Dead (2004) Review

Saturday, February 25th, 2012

Over the past decade, Vampires and Werewolves have been given a “humanized” treatment in movies and TV.  Rather than being the cold, sinister blood thirsty creatures of the night they used to be, they are now more human.  They have feelings, and a culture now- so much so that they’re almost soap operatic in nature… and not as scary as they used to be when Mom would warn us about the vampire in the attic…

One creature of the night that has pretty much stayed the same has been the zombie… except for one film that I found that looks at the zombie in a whole different light…

John and Jennifer are a young couple hoping to enjoy a weekend away at their cabin.  After getting lost in the woods, they are attacked by a stranger who bites John.  Managing to escape, they reach their cabin and safety.  Unfortunately, they soon realize that some changes are taking place in their lives

This movie presents us with an intellegent, and even thought provoking look at the zombie.  We all know that zombies are brainless, shambling corpses with only one thought: EAT THE LIVING!  But what few zombie movies explore is what it would be like to experience the change from living to undead… and remain concious throughout the whole thing.  “Shadows of the Dead” does this brilliantly.

The movie is more drama than pure horror, so is pretty slow.  Because of the slow pace however, you come to care about these two as they go through their changes- and are drawn into the story of how it affects their relationship as well.  There is some blood- it IS a horror movie after all, but it’s used sparingly and effectively to move the story forward… it’s not there just because it’s fun to splash blood all over the set.  The dialogue can seem a bit stiff and bland at times… but no more than you’d find in most soap operas or dramas.

Despite the occaisonal blandness of the dialogue, I felt the acting was pretty good for a movie of such a low budget.  I really came to feel for both John (played by Jonathan Flanigan), and Jennifer (played by Beverly Hynds).  Jason Schwartz- as the pizza guy was funny to watch- I enjoyed his scene.  I also enjoyed Paul Kessler as the doctor that tries to find John’s heartbeat… and fails.  The acting isn’t Academy Award level, but suitably good for this purpose of this film.

The use of the single cabin (pretty much just one or two rooms of it actually) was very well done.  The director, Carl Lindbergh kept things interesting with lighting and camera angles.  There are some great shots where the cabin looks smokey with the light playing in it.  Really added to the mood and feel of the movie- as did the use of greys, blacks, browns and oranges for the sets, costumes, etc.  “Shadows of the Dead” really had a nice tone to it.

The zombie make-up for Jennifer wasn’t great, but was still effective enough to give the impression of her muscles and skin shrinking on her face, giving her a pretty good skull look to her head.  With the use of bandages, contact lenses, fake blood smears, and a bit of make-up peeking through the bandages, the look they gave John was excellent in my opinion.  Seeing him look out through the window at the camera with the grey eyes and bloody bandages was creepy and made me wonder just how much of his face was really left.

While many horror fans will get bored with this film because of its slower pace, and minimal kills, those that enjoy interesting and creative looks at the creatures that scare us will probably enjoy this.
