First Look At My Final Destination

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

No, its not actually my final destination, this is in actual fact an upcoming non-profit fan film aptly titled My Final Destination. The film comes via Double-R Productions who have become well known in making fan-films from popular films, and Final Destination is no exception.

As My Final Destination is a non-profit film, it will not be released, but it will be available for free on YouTube later in the year. In the meantime, we have our hands on the teaser poster and teaser trailer, which I must say, looks really good. Check it out and support these guys.

Areas Of Media Where Electronica Music Is Utilized

Sunday, January 29th, 2012

Electronica Music covers a wide variety of the usual electronic compositions. Advancements in technology have greatly contributed in all genres of music. Use of digital audio stations, synthesizers, computers, drum machines, sequencers and other electronic musical instruments has completely revolutionized styles used in composing songs. This has led to emergence of fusion genres that combine two or more genres in song composition.

Instrumentation

This genre of composition comprises a wide variety of existing electronic compositions. In production of electronic compositions, modern electronic musical instruments and emerging music production technologies are applied. This solely involves use of computers, modern sound synthesizers and sequencers. Recent software technologies such as beat makers further make it easier to record beats and songs from any location.

Everyone Does It

Nowadays, a wide range of musical styles and acts are fond of openly using electronic production. There is a growing practice of song composers creating alternative versions of their compositions which are called remixes.hip hop and R&B rhythms have been twisted in different styles to come up with better versions that are catchy to fans. Electronic related sounds have been used by a range of composers and performers in their songs leading to hip hop fusion.

Remixing

Alternative versions of already existing compositions are created by applying electronic sounds. Such versions are known as remixes and have become popular throughout the world. It has become common that for a soundtrack to hit, it has to involve use of advanced synthesizers, sequencers and computers. A range of hip hop tracks by popular musicians have gained world recognition because of applying current technologies.

Any Type Of Use

Unlike electronic dance compositions which are essentially created for dancing purposes, electronica compositions have been designed for a wide variety of uses. They can be played in the background when certain activities are taking place or for foreground listening. Electronic related genres have become very common to headphone users, earphone users and in chill out zones mainly visited by teenagers.

Evolving Sounds

In a wide variety of sounds and tracks recorded by famous artists throughout the world, electronically influenced sounds have played a significant role.hip hop performers have gained world recognition because of recording tracks and albums that essentially use electronic sounds. Electronically generated sounds are applied in hip hop and R&B rhythms to create fusions that fans enjoy listening to all the time. A new genre called Dubstep Music is proof of evolving sounds.

Electronic Dance Music (EDM)

Electronic dance music culture has widely become common in dancing events that mainly occur at night which are known as raves. Such events are claimed that they embrace technology and are usually associated with lots of fantasy, peace and love. However, use of hard drugs and unaccepted sexual practices in raves has drawn great criticism.

Modern Electronic Music is mainly for listening and not for dancing purposes. Most TV advertisements have electronic background sound effects which are also common in automobiles. Video game sound effects are developed from famous and largely accepted soundtracks. Business products advertised on street billboards and neon signs use electronic related sound effects. This has largely advertised this type of genre in most parts of the world. I like Dubstep Music a lot. people use Ableton Live to create electronic music.

30 Days of Night: Graphic Novel vs. Movie

Saturday, January 28th, 2012

A growing trend in today’s film and television industry is the adaptation of comic books and graphic novels. The horror genre is no exception. So I thought I’d start writing some book-to-film comparisons for those of you who may be unfamiliar with one of them. We’ll begin with 30 Days of Night.

The graphic novel written by Steve Niles with art by Ben Templesmith, is a short (83 pages), fast paced, brutal, and bloody vampire story. Set in the town of Barrow, Alaska, a town so far north that every winter the sun doesn’t rise for 30 days. A community of vampires sees this as an opportunity to feed at will without having to hide during the daytime: 30 days of uninterrupted hunting. However, the town’s sheriff, Eben, will do whatever it takes to save his wife and his town.

The novel doesn’t waste anytime getting into things, as the action is already beginning by page 18 and doesn’t slow down until its conclusion. While in some ways, the short length is what makes it such a good read; it is also the vehicle for all its problems. Because it’s so short, there’s no room for characters or character development. The sheriff, Eben and his wife Stella, are essentially the only characters in the story. While there may be others here or there, they are either in the background or only have one or two lines of dialogue and are easily forgettable.

There’s a small sub-plot about a group of people in New Orleans who are trying to show the world that vampires exist that doesn’t really work. The book would have benefited if this sub-plot were deleted and replaced with additional characters, more plot development, or something to build some actual tension. In these terms, the book falls a little short and you feel like it’s just missing something.

Now let’s look at what the book does offer us, cause I feel like I’m selling it short at this point. The book is pretty violent and filled with lots of blood and gore. And this is definitely highlighted by Templesmith’s art. Templesmith’s sketchy, pseudo abstract, soft focus, and partially digital artwork really helps add to the chaos of the narrative. The dark blue and grey tones give the book a very dark mood and atmosphere while letting the brighter colors of blood and fire really pop off the pages.

David Slade’s (Hard Candy) film adaptation follows the same basic premise, though it has many changes as it went from a short graphic novel to a two-hour movie. There were two major changes in the film version: 1.) The addition of multiple characters and 2.) The vampires in Slade’s version speak some sort of vampiric dialect while those in Niles’ speak English. There is also some added drama between Eben and Stella’s relationship. Additionally, Slade’s version has a more isolated and claustrophobic feel to it as its’ characters spend much of their time hiding. It’s these scenes of additional drama and tension that the book was missing and flush out the story to make it stronger and more complete.

There was no way the movie could acquire the same look as the novel, though it did try to stay true by keeping a dark palette. Like the book there is lots of blood and gore with an even higher death count. The film even kept the same ending, which I have to say, surprised me a bit. While the ending in the novel worked pretty well, it didn’t seem like it would translate to film. After watching it a couple times, it still seems a little cheesy; it works much better in the book.

All in all, the film adaptation of 30 Days of Night is pretty faithful to its original source. Changes needed to be made to make it a feature length film, but most of them were pretty solid. If you have only seen the movie, I would recommend reading the book and vice versa. The movie is probably better because it is a much more complete story, though the book still stands on its own and is worth the time.

The Grey (2011) Review

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

I have experienced things in life that have taught me to never say,”It can’t get worse than this”! Because I know it can.Every horror fan usually knows this by the films they watch. If you mistake what happens in films as things “that will never happen to me”,well, you’ll learn.

As The Grey opens on the cold, bleakness Liam Neeson appears as a man that has no dream of life left,no lies,no illusions. The reasons are not apparent.

He is a sniper contracted to protect oil rig workers from infrequent wolf attacks, and shoots only when completely necessary. He respects the animal enough to know its dangers. His fellow humans he has much less admiration for,at least the ones he works with. They are the refuse of the real world, who deserve to be in the harsh conditions that he has chosen to be in.

On a routine flight to return to civilization the plane crashes literally in the middle of nowhere. The sound editors and techs did such a fantastic job with this film you feel as close to everything that is possible without actually being there.Real depictions of crash victims-and the cold, the cold is a complete character on it’s own. That would be enough to threaten your life.

Then you are hit with the real fear. The primal one most of us have forgotten on our long ride at the top of the food chain. The line between our world of safety and 911 and sanity, and complete all bets are off, nothing will save you but yourself world, is very thin.

He finds out in the worst way possible that the plane has crashed in the world of the wolf and they do not belong there.

Having some knowledge of the animal, but not much else he scrambles to live and protect what is left of humanity in this unforgiving reality. The survivors try to cope as well as you or I could, and we are along for every terrifyingly tense moment.

The Grey is real, raw, scary and so good you will be appreciative of every aspect of your life.Neeson is at his best when thrown against everything that man and nature fears, and it is a film experience. See it!
